Cold Day, Colder Night!

Today will give us another peak of the winter days ahead.  The afternoon temperatures yesterday stayed in the 50's°, we expect the same today. This will make the second day in a row we either tie or break the record for lowest maximum temperatures for the date.  These temperatures are more  typical of a mid-December through mid-January then early October.

It's been a sudden departure from balmy weather.  The first five days of October were all in the 80's. On Friday afternoon at 3pm at DFW it was 85 degrees. Saturday afternoon it was 30° cooler.

Tonight we'll drop down into the low 40's in the metro area as skies clear and winds diminish. The record low for tomorrow is 39  degrees, the forecast is for a low of 42.  In Denton and north it'll get down to the upper 30's tonight. By tomorrow morning we'll be moving around in lows we have not felt in seven months ( since March 9th)

The clouds and wind stayed through the overnight. This was good; if the skies had cleared and the winds slowed we would be shattering the  earliest freeze mark for DFW (114 years ago on Oct. 22nd). Instead the lows stayed steady through the night in the upper 40's.

The cold air invasion continues all day today. We'll have little break in the cloud cover by afternoon, there will be a few sprinkles across the Red River counties. Highs will stay in the mid-50's again, likely equaling or breaking the record again for lowest maximum.

You wouldn't expect weather this cold to stick around this time of year. It won't. Columbus day will be spectacular;  mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60's. Winds will pick up from the southwest on Tuesday and we'll jump into the low 80's. It'll be in the mid-80's the rest of the work week into the weekend.

Rain chances do show up again. Starting Wednesday just about every afternoon through Saturday there will be some storms around. We keep the chances low; only about 20% but reaching 30% next Saturday. There is a risk of strong storms by late Friday and Saturday. It appears that next weekend will be yet another one with unsettled weather.
