2 Uber Passengers Shot In Back Of Mercedes In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police are searching for the person who started shooting on a Dallas highway Tuesday afternoon, hitting three cars and injuring two people. It happened near Northwest Highway and Loop 12 around noon.

Chelsea, who did not want to share her last name, is one of the victim's daughter. She's thankful her dad and his partner are alive.

She said the two were heading home in an Uber when they were caught in an act of violence they had nothing to do with.

"They ducked down and that's when the driver got away as fast as possible, Chelsea said. "I could have almost not ever spoken to my dad again and that scares me."

Police said the shots appeared to be coming from one car, a white Chevy Malibu. They believe the driver was targeting a couple inside a black Nissan SUV. The couple was seen stopping their car running and into a gas station for help. A store clerk said the two told him they did not know why they were being shot at.

"I put the door locked and put them in the corner," store clerk Martin Khokar.

Chelsea said her family was caught in the crossfire.

"It's called being in the wrong place at the wrong time," she said.

Her father was shot in the leg. His partner was grazed in the head by a bullet.

On Tuesday night, both were out of the hospital and okay.

"They were actually in better spirits than I thought," Chelsea said. "They were real troopers because if I were shot I wouldn't be that chipper."

Chelsea is now hoping the person who hurt her loved ones is caught quickly and said the violence needs to stop.

"How many more school shootings, how many more hit and runs, how many more random shootings like this is it going to take for people to wake up already?" she said. "Is it going to take someone to get randomly shot through the car and killed because this is ridiculous? "I just want people to see how it affects other family members."

Police said the driver of the Chevy Malibu took off southbound on Loop 12. On top of looking for him, they're also looking for the woman in the black SUV that was targeted.
