Seven-year-old Gracie Taylor of Sanger and 9-year-old Tristan McClary of Savannah received the Red E. Fox 9-1-1 Kid Hero medal by the Denton County Commissioners Court.

After a trampoline accident involving his sister and her friend, Tristan called 911 and relayed life-saving emergency medical instructions to his mother, who was helping the injured child.

"My sister's mouth came right to her friends head and it started bleeding, so I called 911," Tristan said. "She was like 'i'm gonna die, i'm gonna die.' 'No you're not. Just stay calm. Just stay calm.'"

Gracie called 911 for help when her mother suffered symptoms of her heart condition and could not breathe.

"She stayed very calm," said Michelle King, a Denton County Sheriff's Office dispatcher. "We have calls from adults where they're screaming hysterically. And her mother is there not being able to talk and breathe, and she's answering my questions very calmly and getting me the info I need so we could get help out there to her."

In a motion that passed unanimously, the two kids received a medal, a certificate, and other goodies alongside their proud parents and the operators and responders who helped them.
