THC-Laced Candies A Growing Concern In North Texas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Dallas have confirmed to CBS11 they've seen an increase of Cannabis or THC-laced candies making the rounds throughout North Texas.
Specifically a DEA spokeswoman said they continue to investigate and seize gummy-type edibles infused with THC.
Those products are legal in other states, but it's illegal to manufacture and sell those products in Texas.
Somehow they are still making it to North Texas.
Dr. James Pinckney of Diamond Physicians in Dallas urged people to keep an eye out for these so called gummy edibles on Halloween.
"THC-laced candies could be two to 100 times more potent than traditional marijuana," said Dr. Pinckney.
He said the symptoms can be extreme. "You can have anxiety. Auditory and visual hallucinations. So those are some things to look out for if you think your child has consumed some edible candy that is laced with THC," said Dr. Pinckney.
He said the most important tip to keep kids from accidentally being exposed to the THC gummies is to be very mindful of the labeling and wrapping of them.
If they are not wrapped by a known candy manufacturer he said you should throw it.
"So if you see something in saran wrap or tin foil that is a red flag do not consume that candy," said Dr. Pinckney.
If it is wrapped by a manufacturer but the label is unfamiliar, he suggested parents read those labels as closely as possible to make sure they know what is in those candies.
