PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - More than a year ago Toyota broke ground on its new North Texas headquarters. While workers move dirt and build buildings, the automaker is doing more to become a part of the community.

When you think of Toyota, country music may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But for local musicians John Pedigo and Taylor Young, it's a perfect match.

"Toyota coming in here is a gamechanger," Pedigo said.

The duo's Dallas-based band, The Ohs, have played the Texas Music Revolution event for years, so they wanted to help the automaker announce its new role as the title sponsor of the music festival as it moves this year to Plano.

"It's going to be a whole new crop of people just because Toyota will be able to reach out to a brand new audience I think," Young said.

The music festival later this month will be just one of the ways the automaker is getting involved with its new community. After the company decided to make the move to Plano it announced a $1 million donation to Plano ISD and a commitment to have Toyota engineers work with students on STEM education.

"We preach this principle of respect for people. It's very important to the company, and it trickles down throughout our operations around the world, and you're going to see that in Plano," Toyota Corporate Communications Vice President Steve Curtis said.

As for the new Toyota Texas Music Revolution, the company hopes it reinforces Plano as a cultural center for music and the arts.

"It's smart for Toyota. I mean it kind of puts you into the community and this is a community event, really," Pedigo said.

Toyota stopped short of announcing specific future projects, but the company said it's meeting regularly with community members to find ways it can share its resources and expertise.
