Patrick Says Trump Was Misunderstood At Debate

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Texas Lt. Governor and Donald Trump's Texas Chairman Dan Patrick defended the Republican nominee's controversial remarks involving results of the upcoming election.
In Dallas Thursday, Patrick said, "I think he was misunderstood. I understand his opponents and Democrats are trying to make hay with it."
On Wednesday night, Trump told the debate's moderator Chris Wallace that he won't say if he'll honor the outcome of the election. "I'll keep you in suspense, okay," said Trump.
At a rally in Ohio Thursday, Trump said, "I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election... if I win."
Senator Ted Cruz wouldn't speak for Trump, but says he respects elections. "I've won elections, I've lost elections, and I respect the results of an election."
With polls showing the race between Trump and Hillary Clinton tightening in Texas, Cruz has been criss-crossing the state and North Texas to urge conservatives to vote.
"I'm very concerned that people will stay home," said Cruz.
He said he understands conservatives may be demoralized about this election but says Congress, and even state races are at stake.
"It only takes two or three percent of conservatives staying home for us to have a really devastating election result down ballot, particularly in big urban counties such as Dallas County and Harris County," said Cruz.
