Texas House Set To Debate Revenue Measure
AUSTIN (AP) - A measure to raise more money to be used in the next state budget is about to take center stage in the House.
The so-called fiscal matters bill is set for debate Wednesday. It would raise an estimated $1.8 billion from one-time sources, including the sale of some unused state property and the repeal a hotel sales tax exemption for long-term residents.
Hundreds of amendments, including some volatile issues, have been pre-filed. The debate, which could last beyond Wednesday, is expected to be contentious.
House and Senate budget leaders have said a balanced budget depends on the passage of the fiscal matters bill.
