Texas DPS Troopers Ready For Labor Day Weekend

AUSTIN (AP) - All available Texas troopers have been assigned Labor Day holiday weekend duty looking for speeders, drunken drivers and other traffic violators.

The Department of Public Safety says increased patrols are planned Friday through Monday.

DPS says troopers will concentrate on seeking DWI violators in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent. Funding for the extra duty comes from a state grant.

Troopers last Labor Day holiday weekend arrested 718 people for drunken driving. DPS officers also wrote more than 12,000 speeding tickets.
