Sundance Square Renovation Project Nearing Completion
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Construction crews have less than 60 days to finish the more than $100-million renovation project to Sundance Square Plaza in downtown Fort Worth.
"It just brings another dimension that we've been missing to downtown Fort Worth," said Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price.
The new square, framed by two renovated buildings and three new buildings, will feature a clock tower, four new restaurants, a stage, a water fountain, and four giant 40 by 40 foot umbrellas.
"We've always thought of it as the center piece – the thing that makes the square in Sundance Square, the place where you can say I am in the middle of the square," said Johnny Campbell, Sundance Square CEO.
The pedestrian-friendly square eliminated 180 parking spaces and could make driving downtown a little more difficult, but Campbell said those are minor trade-offs compared to what the renovations will add to downtown.
Andy Taft, President of the Downtown Fort Worth Inc., said the new Sundance Square is expected to bring in an additional million dollars a year in tax revenue to the city.
