Summer Officially Arrived This Morning

This Morning:  quiet, mostly clear & warm.  Temps in the 70s.  Winds:  S 5-10.

Today:  mostly sunny, hot & humid.  Highs 93-97.  Winds:  S 10-20.

The Summer Solstice occurred a little after midnight this morning when the Sun reached it's highest latitude in the Northern Hemisphere.  From our sunrise this morning at 6:20 AM to our sunset at 8:40 PM, we have 14 hours and 20 minutes of daylight making today our longest "day" of the year.  Daylight shrinks from here on out as the Sun migrates back toward the equator for the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd.  That would make another 1/4 turn of Earth's orbit or revolution around the Sun.

The forecast is pretty straight forward and quiet.  We'll get bored in the weather department right quick with consistent weather through the weekend and into Monday.  You can see the overall pattern in the graphic below with the main active storm track well north, a minor storm track over the Panhandles and trapped energy in the Southeast US.  The heat wave over North Texas is the "ridge" in the upper level pattern.  This is the pattern that brings us our big Summertime heat.

That ridge looks to strengthen Tuesday – Thursday next week and that will bring our first 100 degree days of the season.  Right now still shy on saying we'll get above 100, but Thursday could be a 101-102 day.
