Staying Cloudy & Cold Across North Texas
We at least got into the low 40's this afternoon after the early morning rain. The previous three days have stayed in the 30's all day. In a time of drought it is good to talk of rain; a decent one overnight/this morning for the eastern half of north Texas. Around a half-inch in the Metroplex, near an inch-and-a-half southeast:
We have a cold front coming in overnight that insures another cloudy, cold day. We'll have some light fog overnight and tomorrow morning with occasional drizzle. A strong north wind by mid-day on will dry the lower levels of the atmosphere but the clouds stay:
Again we have Arlington capturing the country's attention as the first national football playoff championship game takes place at AT&T Stadium tomorrow night. It'll be a cold wind blowing under mostly cloudy skies:
Tuesday will have less wind but we again might have some light drizzle around. In the early morning hours into daybreak this could be a freezing drizzle but we expect amounts will be too light to create problems. A cloudy and cold day for us:
Tuesday night late a upper-air disturbance swings in form the west. This could create some problems if its strong enough. We'll have cold air in place; the precipitation will start as snow and sleet before changing over to rain Wednesday afternoon. Right now we only put a 20% chance; it would be light amounts. There is a chance we could get a dusting of snow along the Red River counties:
There are some forecast models that show no precipitation because of the dry air and a weaker upper air system. FutureSky Forecast shows a minor winter event by Wednesday morning. We'll keep you posted as we draw closer to the event:
The average high at DFW so here in January is 43°, well below the average high of 56°. We are due some warmer weather; we'll be in the low 60's by the weekend with some windy conditions. There is a chance for some rain on Sunday but we'll keep that out for now until we get a little closer since the long-range models widely vary on the chances:
