Southwestern Seminary Acquires More Dead Sea Scroll Fragments

FORT WORTH (AP) - Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary says it has acquired three more fragments from the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The school announced this week that the new fragments were obtained from a private collector in Europe through a gift from a friend of the seminary. The school also acquired three pieces from the scrolls in January.

Early analysis shows the new fragments include two portions of Deuteronomy and one of the Psalms.

Southwestern is one of three U.S. institutions to own scroll fragments

The more than 2,000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the 1940s in caves in Israel overlooking the Dead Sea. The scrolls include the earliest known version of portions of the Hebrew Bible. They have shed light on Judaism and the beginnings of Christianity.
