DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Denver Broncos are planning a pursuit of  Tony Romo if the Cowboys quarterback is released and the money works, according to two sources close to Mike Fisher.

While neither Tony Romo nor his agent Tom Condon have permission to speak with any teams, it's been widely speculated that Romo will have the freedom to choose his next team.

Fisher has been reporting for months now that Romo could be released, as that represents a simple and logical resolution if Romo decided to continue playing football. ... The reason being is that if a team desired Romo - why trade for him when you can just sign him when he gets cut?

Romo is virtually in the driver seat because he could potentially walk away from the game if he is traded to a team he doesn't want to play for. Romo is rumored to have multiple television network contracts in hand if he chose that pathway.

Fish also reports that Romo and the Cowboys front office has indeed spoken about his options ... and clarity is coming to the situation.  Could Romo remain a Cowboy? According to Fisher, he and owner Jerry Jones have wondered about the possibility of No. 9 remaining in Dallas, but rational minds will prevail.

We'll have more clarity on the Romo situation very soon as we're closing in on the opening of free agency on March 9.
