Sony Pictures Cancels Release Of 'The Interview' Amid Terrorist Threats

NEW YORK (AP/CBSDFW) - Sony Pictures has canceled the planned Dec. 25 release of the comedy film 'The Interview'.

The film, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, is a comedy about a CIA plot to assassinate its leader Kim Jong-Un, played by Randall Park.

The country of North Korea has vowed "merciless retaliation" against what it calls a "wanton act of terror" — although it has denied involvement in a massive cyber attack on Sony Pictures, the studio behind the film.

In a statement, Sony said it was cancelling "The Interview" "in light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film." The studio said it respected and shared in the exhibitors' concerns.

"We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome," read the statement.
