Some Ice Tonight, Warmer By Morning
We continue to watch temperatures hover just below freezing around the Metroplex with light freezing drizzle falling. Fortunately amounts have been light enough so not to aggravate the road conditions. The sun's energy helped melt the ice and slush down to a liquid by afternoon. We'll have temperatures right around freezing this evening so they'll likely stay just wet as opposed to icy.
The situation is by a few degrees much different just to the north and west of the Metro. This is where a Winter Weather Advisory continues till midnight:
The snow was heavier in this area, there was a much thicker layer to melt.
It was also a few degrees cooler all day from Weatherford over to Denton to Sherman; it stayed in the upper 20's for the most part. With the freezing drizzle still falling by 7pm we were already getting reports of roads freezing over part of Cooke Co. Where temperatures fall to 28° the icing will be more widely spread:
Meanwhile, over Fort Worth and Dallas, Denton over to McKinney, We should start seeing the freezing rain change over to rain as we get deeper into the evening:
In the areas of pink we will likely see some of these roads re-freeze, especially where the pavement was never exposed through the slow melting. It could be another night of dangerous roads from Weatherford over to Jacksboro to Gainesville.
Meanwhile across the DFW area we should have temperatures creep up a degree or two by daybreak tomorrow. If you are running the half-marathon tomorrow it'll be a cold, light rain falling:
The drizzle and occasional light rain will continue most of the morning. It should be just above freezing to start the day tomorrow and get into the upper 30's by noon. We'll have a high in the low 40's with most of the light rain to our east.
We'll likely have the rain pick up again tomorrow night into Sunday. We'll stay above freezing during the nights so no ice concerns. Tomorrow and Monday morning will likely be foggy.
Lets fast forward to Tuesday. Morning temperatures will be in the upper 40's. We won't have much in sunshine but strong south winds should get us into the upper 60's. By afternoon strong storms could form, especially east of the I-35 corridor. That storm threat will continue in the evening. How strong the storms are depend on the cloud cover- if the sun breaks out the chances will increase:
Tuesday night a cold front moves in. Behind it is another shock of very cold air. We'll start the morning in the upper 30's, even low 40's but temperatures will fall all day. We could even be in the upper 20's by afternoon with very strong north winds producing wind chills near zero. We'll have sleet start to develop by mid-day and afternoon.
Right now its looking like just sleet with a little light snow by late day or evening. As far as the sleet, most of it should fall to the east of the Metro area. Being so many days away much could change with this forecast. Stay tuned!
We'll dry out and warm back up by next weekend:
