Sizzling Hot Weekend, Cooler Next Week
The weather pattern continues to churn out 100-degree days. Today will make the 5th of the year and the 5th in a row. I suspect that we'll tack on at least two more over the weekend as dry weather remains over our drought-stricken state. We typically only get 2 or 3 days of 100° weather in June, about 6 days of it in July.
Today: Mostly Sunny, Breezy. High around 101°, winds south 15-25, gusts to 35mph
Tonight: Mostly Clear, Muggy. Low around 80°, winds south 10-15mph.
Saturday: Mostly Sunny, Breezy, High around 102°, winds south 15-25, gusts to 35mph
Sunday: Mostly Sunny, Breezy, High around 101°, winds south 15-25mph, gusts to 35mph
Yes, that's right, pretty much the exact same forecast each day from Friday to Sunday (Father's Day). Here is the rain outlook for the next five days leading up to Tuesday morning. Thought the Missouri River basin (right now in historic flood) gets 3"-4" of rain over the period, the forecast shows hardly a drop of rain for the Lone Star state:
However there is relief in sight. The upper air pattern is going to take a turn for the better. You can compare the 500mb (the pressure field and winds at around 18,000ft above) for Saturday and compare it with next Wednesday. This weekend a massive ridge of high pressure is parked over the state. By the middle of next week a trough takes it place, opening the door for afternoon storms and cooler weather. We are actually forecasting a high on Wednesday of 89°. If this verifies we'll finally break the string of 90-100 degree weather that started back on May 27th.
