Should There Be An Age Requirement For Pierced Ears?
A demand for a ban on baby ear piercings has taken off across the pond.
An online petition in the United Kingdom is calling for a minimum age requirement for cosmetic procedure.
"It is a form of child cruelty," writes the petition creator Susan Ingram. "Severe pain and fear is inflicted upon infants unnecessarily. It serves no purpose other than to satisfy the parent's vanity. Other forms of physically harming children are illegal; this should be no different."
As of Friday, nearly 40,000 have signed the petition.
The American Academy of Pediatrics calls baby and toddler piercing low-risk, so long as the procedure is done in a sterile environment.
