September: A Little Cooler
A LITTLE MORNING RAIN…THEN HOT AGAIN
Mostly cloudy skies again start our day. Not as much rain around as yesterday morning but a the slower warm up in store for us. We'll still easily crack into the 100's for the 64th time this year once the sun start to break out just before noon. An Air Quality Alert is again in effect for the day: Orange style. Those with lung problems should limit outdoor exposure during the afternoon.
ERCOT is predicting near record useage of electricity today by the 23 million residents of Texas it serves as well as all the businesses. From 3p to 7p we should all help out by setting our house cooling systems to 78 degrees, no doing our wash or running the dishwasher until after 7pm.
TURN THE CALENDAR OVER, TURN THE TEMPERATURES DOWN
We still have a few more hot days ahead, tomorrow we'll hit in the low 100's by afternoon with mostly sunny skies. Thursday we'll likely get to around 100 degrees for the first day of September. But then we stop counting 100 degree days for awhile. Highs should top out on Friday in the upper 90's with some rain in our southeast corner and mostly clouds skies elsewhere. Saturday and Sunday will stay in the mid-90's with 10% to 20% rain chances.
RAIN CHANCES FOR THE HOLDIAY: SMALL BUT AROUND
We are not as optimistic about rain chances as we were just 24 hours ago. It appears a weak tropical system will form in the gulf over the holiday and rob an upper air system over central Texas some much needed rain. This means some very wet weather for the coastal areas and as we approach Labor Day, for south Texas. But around here we'll await a cold front that arrives Sunday. This front should help increase rain chances for us late Sunday and Monday. There will be plenty of cloud cover and a north wind. Highs should be only in the low 90's by Monday. Below you can see how heavy the rain looks just to our southeast into the coast (this is the QPF for days 4-5). While it looks like a wet holiday for the Galveston beach area, north Texas have to wait for the front to arrive to pull a nice rain in from the south. We desperately need the rain!
