A Sanger ISD school bus overturned Thursday evening in Denton County, killing one student, the district said.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 5 p.m. on Huling Road near Lois Road East. The Texas Department of Public Safety said that the bus was traveling north on Huling Road when it veered off the road, struck a culvert, and rolled over.

According to the district, the bus driver and four students were on board. Texas DPS identified the bus driver as 38-year-old Jesse Padgett of Sanger. Padgett and three students were treated for minor injuries on the scene.

A 13-year-old student was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

"Our hearts are with the student's family and all those impacted by the tragedy," Sanger ISD said in its post. "We are working closely with law enforcement and emergency personnel and will share additional information with our families as it becomes available and is appropriate to release.

"Please keep the family and all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts."

The district said Texas DPS is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
