TRINIDAD (AP) - At least six people were slightly injured Thursday morning when a school bus overturned in East Texas during its route.

The Malakoff Independent School District said that the crash happened along Highway 274 near Trinidad. That's about 60 miles southeast of Dallas.

School district officials said that the driver lost control, crossed the road, and the bus ended up on its side in a pasture. The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the crash happened as the southbound bus was in an area where the road has a narrow shoulder.

District authorities said that five middle and high school students were taken to an Athens hospital with possible neck and back injuries. Superintendent Randy Perry said that the bus driver was also transported to the hospital. Authorities added that the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
