Robinson Woman Gets 30 Years Over Death Of Spouse

WACO  (AP) -- A Central Texas woman convicted in the fatal shooting of her longtime spouse as he slept has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

A jury in Waco on Friday convicted 66-year-old Joyce Sturdivant of Robinson of murder and of attempted capital murder. The case involves the 2008 death of 68-year-old Joe Sturdivant Jr.

Prosecutors say the wife tried to hire some men to kill her husband of nearly 40 years. Investigators say Joyce Sturdivant benefited from a $92,000 insurance payment after her spouse died.

Jurors on Monday ordered the 30-year prison term on the murder charge and 15 years for attempted capital murder. The sentences will be served concurrently.
