COPPELL (CBSDFW.COM/AP)— The average price for retail gas in Texas has dropped 4 cents this week, settling at an average of $1.96 for a gallon for regular unleaded fuel.
AAA Texas said Thursday that the average is 49 cents less per gallon than last year.
The group says its survey found that drivers in Dallas are paying gas prices about even with most of the state, at $1.94 per gallon. Drivers in Fort Worth are paying a little less at $1.92.
El Paso has the highest average price in the state, at $2.09 per gallon while drivers in Amarillo are paying the least at $1.86.
AAA Texas says the national average price is now $2.12, which is 2 cents less than last week and 52 cents less per gallon than last year.
The group says gas prices across most of the country continue to slide during the peak road-trip season because of abundant supplies.
