Rescuers Work Through The Night In Flooded Neighborhoods

Rescuers in Hood County worked until nightfall Tuesday to pull people from their flooded homes.

At least 20 homes in the Lake Granbury Trails area were surrounded by rushing water.

Penny Scott says her family used ropes tied between trees to make their way out.

"You'd lose your stepping, your feet would float out from underneath you," she said.

Her only thought: "Let my kids be safe."

Karen Myers had to be rescued by boat.

As she was led to dry ground, her husband waited still stranded on their porch.

"They only had three life jackets and he wouldn't let me stay with him," she explained. "Hope they get him here fast."

With light quickly fading, she watched one of the last boats appear, her husband safely on board.

Ronnie Myers says, he wanted to make sure his wife made it to safety first.

"I'm a big ole boy I didn't want to weigh the boat down," he said.
