Remembering Actress Marcia Wallace
Marcia Wallace was one of television's best character actresses, character voice artists, and game show panelists.
Born in Creston, Iowa in 1942, she had a troubled childhood and after graduation from college went to New York to pursue her acting career.
After roles with some off-Broadway groups and TV guest star roles in shows like Bewitched, Columbo, and Love American Style, she landed the role of Carol Kester in The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978 on CBS) as the chatty receptionist of Dr. Bob Hartley. Carol was not only talkative but was very lovelorn too!
During her stint on the Newhart show, Marcia was also a game show panelist on CBS Daytime's hit show The Match Game with host Gene Rayburn. One of her best friends off camera was another Match Game panelist: Brett Somers.
After the Newhart show, she continued to make numerous guest star and character voice appearances but her second career hit in 1990 as the voice of Mrs. Krabappel in FOX's The Simpsons, from 1990 until her passing this month.
