Ranger Of The Week: Ian Kinsler

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - To borrow an old phrase from cable channel VH1, Ian Kinsler is having the Best Week Ever.

The 29-year-old second baseman started the 2012 season strong.  With one week in the books Kinsler has already hit 3 home runs, scored 9 runs and is swinging a hefty .370 average.

As 105.3 The Fan's Greggo put it, "He's tearing the cover off the ball."

Not bad stats, especially since he signed a 5-year $75 Million deal this week too, and his game didn't let up after signing on the dotted line Wednesday night.

Kinsler has been clutch, other than one errant throw against Seattle Thursday afternoon.  He's also leading the team in slugging percentage (.889) and total bases (24).

His demeanor in getting his contract done shows he's here for the Rangers, not just to collect a paycheck.  "My main focus is to play hard for my teammates and do what I can to win a game," he told reporters on Opening Day.

CBS 11 Assignment Manager Mike Pool says an honorable mention has to go to Nolan Ryan for getting the Kinsler deal done.  He says it shows Ryan is showing "the commitment to keep a winner on the field."

Plus, as Pool points out, Nolan introduced the 2-foot hot dog to Rangers fans this week.

And while all of that is good, the man who has been getting it done on the field is the quirky second baseman with the kneehigh socks. So for the first week of the 2012 Rangers season, CBSDFW tabs Ian Kinsler as your Texas Ranger of the Week.
