Police Seek Driver Who Hit & Killed Red Oak Woman

RED OAK (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Red Oak are searching for a hit-and-run driver after the death of a pedestrian early Wednesday. The incident happened shortly after midnight in the 200 block of Ovilla Road. Authorities received a call about a possible collision between a woman and a pickup truck.

The victim has been identified as Betsy Sue McClelland of Red Oak. Law enforcement officials said that she was walking along Ovilla Road heading east when she was hit by a motor vehicle. McClelland sustained critical injuries and was taken to Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. The 47-year-old woman was later pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of this incident.

Detectives said that the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Surveillance camera video has been obtained from several nearby businesses, including one that shows the suspect pull into a parking lot for a brief moment before driving away.
