DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A state agency has revoked Excalibur Towing Company's license to operate, for illegally towing cars and refusing to allow state oversight.
CBS11 began investigating the Arlington-based company last year after numerous complaints its tow trucks had seized legally parked cars.
State records show the Arlington-based company then refused to allow an inspector on the premises in January or to comply with a subpoena for business records issued in December 2015.
Excalibur's parent company, Merlin Transport, requested a hearing after to challenge the findings against it but "did not appear for the hearing" according to the administrative court judge over the proceeding.
TDLR's executive director signed an order, posted today, issuing an $18,000 fine against Merlin and revocation of its license to tow.
He also ordered its storage facility, Avalon Storage Services, to pay an $8,000 fine and revoked its license to store vehicles.
Excalibur and Avalon are both owned by Nick Massey.
"The revocation is invalid and not lawful," said James Mosser, the attorney representing Massey.
