Newlywed Shot & Killed Outside Arlington Apartment
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Vatrice Hawkins married the love of her life back in August. Now, just a few months into their marriage, she finds herself an unexpected widow.
According to the Arlington Police Department, the woman's new husband was shot and killed while taking their dog for a walk at their apartment complex, located near the intersection of Highway 360 and Pioneer Parkway. The incident happened Tuesday morning in a breezeway at the complex.
The victim was in 'house shoes' when he was discovered face-down in the breezeway. Some neighbors reported hearing gunshots, but did not see the gunman.
Hawkins said that her husband was a strong Christian who loved his kids and had no shortage of smiles. The Arlington Police Department is still searching for the suspected gunman and, along with the victim's wife, trying to determine why this tragedy happened. "I lost my best friend. I lost my true love," Hawkins said. "I was only married for two months and, this morning, I woke up feeling I lost my world. I don't know. I just want them to find this person."
Flowers now mark the spot where Hawkins was found.
There was a similar shooting at the same apartment complex back in June. That victim survived. Police do not believe that the shootings are connected.
Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to contact the Arlington Police Department.
