RHOME (CBSDFW.COM) - An overnight deadly shooting after an apparent home invasion attempt has some Rhome families like the Thornhills worried for their safety.
"It's a close knit neighborhood everybody kind of has each others back," Paisli Thornhill said. "You know, we all watch out for each other. So, it's a really good neighborhood. That's why it's so scary."
Deputies said Spencer Crandall, 31, was knocking on the door and ringing the bell of a house on Carpenter Lane at four in the morning. When the homeowner came out, investigators said he found Crandall climbing a fence saying he needed to get in the home. Deputies said the two scuffled and the homeowner shot and killed Crandall.
Neighbors immediately had questions.
"Does he live around here? Does anybody know him?" Thornhill wondered.
Records show Crandall lived just down the street from where he was shot. A neighbor said he didn't talk much but sometimes had erratic behavior such as knocking on neighbors' doors for no apparent reason. Neighbors said Crandall did not know the man who shot him.
"You just pray and keep watching out for each other," Thornhill said. "And pray that it never happens to you. You know, I feel really bad for the homeowner. What do you do? He was just protecting his family."
