Monday Morning Meltdown: Cowboys 31, Giants 21

By Cory Mageors | @inthemageors

105.3 THE FAN -- I'm not going to stand up here and boast about being 6-1. There is no reason for me to talk about how awesome it is that all the haters out there that said the Cowboys wouldn't win 4 games are all hiding in their holes right now.

Hey, even though my prediction was 10-6, I still had a 5-gallon bucket of concerns about this team. Maybe I still do, but a 6-1 record is helping me look past any concerns I have.

The Cowboys gave us all plenty of scares against the Giants on Sunday, but I never felt like they didn't have the game in control. The defense looked a little suspect a couple of times, but relationships are 60-40. This time the offense pulled a little more weight with Dez Bryant grabbing 9 for 151 and DeMarco Murray carrying for a record setting 7-straight 100-yard games to begin the season.

That being said, the defense still has not given up more than 17 points to any team on their own, that's without an offensive turnover or special teams blunder.

Somebody please give Terrell McClain a game ball and tell the refs to open their eyes. That uncalled strip was freaking awesome and a play similar to what got Jadaveon Clowney national credit two years ago. Attaboy McClain.

All that being said, 6-1 is cool. But 7-1 is where we want to be next week.

The Rest of the NFL

-- Tip of the cap to Peyton Manning. A magnificent career doing what every quarterback wants to do, putting the ball on the good side of the end zone more than any quarterback ever.

For those who want to say, "yeah but Eli," come on are you serious?

Eli had a couple of seasons where he and his team went mind-numbingly unconscious and streaked their way to Super Bowl wins. That's no easy feat, but throughout his career, Peyton has consistently put up amazing numbers with precision, accuracy and near perfect execution.

To accomplish what he has deserves a stand up clap, a good game butt-pat, helmet slap and maybe, just maybe another Papa John's commercial.

510…and counting.

-- Did the Cowboys layout the blue print for the league to beat the Seattle Seahawks? No, the San Diego Chargers did.

Listen to K&C family member Bryan Broaddus, who has said on a number of occasions that the Chargers number of plays (70) and their third down numbers offensively and defensively made all of the difference. The Cowboys then did the exact same thing, then this week the Rams did the same thing again.

Now, the Rams certainly needed a couple of trick plays, like that brilliant punt fall play. Reminds me of a play once where my coach gave me the signal to trip and fall leading off first base, and when the pitcher turned to throw me out, we scored the winning run from third. Love plays like that.

Also, that fake punt at the end of the game took nuts the size of wrecking balls. Not only did they execute it, but the punter Johnny Hekker drilled a strike for 18 yards for the win.

How much did the Percy Harvin trade effect them, who cares? Man up and play. They lost focus and the Rams knocked them down.

-- Colt McCoy hits Pierre Garcon for 70 yards to start things off as Washington's quarterback. Initially a lot of people start to laugh at Washington for having to turn to McCoy. But what if the dude is at a turning point in his career. He doesn't have a ton of pressure because nobody really expects anything out of him. He has plenty of weapons and a coach who can draw funny plays on the whiteboard.

Right now the Skins are 2-5, and it took everything they had to beat Tennessee. I don't think they have enough firepower to beat the Cowboys, but it is an interesting story line here in Texas that another former Texas area QB is at the reigns in Washington.

-- What the heck happened to Atlanta? Matt Ryan finished with an average 5.2 yards per pass. Julio Jones led the team with 56 receiving yards, and their top running back had 28 yards. This Falcons team that once was full of offensive firepower looks like they dumped all of their weapons in the water in the Atlantic Ocean. That being said, Joe Flacco was a pretty good draft pick at 18 for Baltimore in 2008, with Ryan going 3.

-- The Indianapolis Colts are straight up nasty. They burn you up with their offense and they can shut you down defensively. Listen, I know the Bengals were without AJ Green, but that's not going to matter when this happens. Thanks to @NickPANDO for this Vine.

-- Shut up Kyle Orton.

-- Aaron Rodgers dismantled the Carolina Panthers with an efficient 255 and 3 TD's. Then the Packers got to R-E-L-A-X. The Packers scored on 11-percent of the plays they ran offensively. I know that sounds like a small number, but it's huge when you only run 56 plays and a chunk of it is TDs.

Teams to FEAR
Packers
Colts
Cowboys

Teams to REAR (I don't know it just rhymes)
Seahawks
Redskins
Giants
Saints
