Mild End To A (Mostly) Mild Month

Another wonderful day in this mild January. Highs reached to around 60° despite the sub-freezing start this morning (DFW low this morning: 30°). Very low humidity and sunshine teamed with a southwest wind to provide the generous warm up.

WARM END TO A WARM MONTH

Lows tonight look to be at least 10 degrees warmer than last night thanks to a south wind. As those south winds pick up tomorrow we'll have a warmer day as well, highs will get into the upper 60's. A few clouds show up in the afternoon, those clouds thicken up in the overnight hours. Keeping with that south wind, the cloud cover will allow an overnight low only in the mid-50's. This is very close to the typical HIGH for this time of year.

TUESDAY

Tuesday will start with a low deck of clouds and some drizzle in our eastern counties, east of the DFW area in Kaufman and Corsicana. Those skies will clear out with some gusty south winds, highs will bounce up to the low-70's to close the month. This would make the 6th time this month the daytime high has reached to 70° or above. Last January this happened only twice. This January we've only had eight afternoons where the temperature sat below the typical high. Not only have we avoided snow and very cold temperatures, the month also provided much need rain. This is the 2nd wettest January on record.

WEDNESDAY

We'll start February with more warm weather, highs will be in the low 70's despite the cloud cover. A front arrives later in the day, the start of a return to cooler temperatures.

THURSDAY

Skies should clear out, highs will reach into the mid-to-upper 60's. Another, strong front arrives that night to usher in colder-than-normal temperatures

AND FROM HERE- SOME UNCERTAINITY

There is little model agreement  or run-to-run consistency in what happens with a strong upper level low moving over the southern plains. One model makes it very powerful and closer to us- this means more in rain and more in colder wrap-around temperatures. If this one pans out we could see some sleet (maybe even some non-accumulating snow) on Saturday. For right now I've taken a milder version of this solution for what's it worth. There'll likely be significant changes to the next weekend's forecast over the next couple of days.

Friday: Cloudy, 20% Rain Chance, High of 58°

Saturday: Cloudy, Windy, 30% Rain chance, High of 54°

Sunday: Clearing. Freezing morning, high of 53°
