Man Pleads Guilty In Crash That Killed Officer
CLEBURNE (AP) - A man accused of causing a crash last year that killed an off-duty North Texas police officer has pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports 22-year-old Ricardo Espinoza pleaded guilty Wednesday, the day testimony was set to begin in his trial.
Espinoza was accused of driving his pickup into a motorcycle ridden by 25-year-old Dustin Dodson, a Lancaster police officer.
Espinoza faces up to 20 years in prison on the intoxication manslaughter charge and 10 years on the leaving the scene of an accident charge.
A prosecutor says a blood test taken after the accident recorded Espinoza's blood alcohol content at .086, above the legal limit for driving. Also, traces of methamphetamine were found in Espinoza's blood.
