Lower Greenville Bar Owner Jailed In Underage Drinking Probe
The owner of a Lower Greenville bar is still in jail and now it looks like he might be deported back to his native Nigeria because of alcohol sales to underage SMU students. Brian Nwatu was locked up last week on charges that he lied to get the liquor license for his tavern, the Lost Society on Greenville near Richmond Avenue. The state has now started the paperwork necessary to yank the bar's alcohol permits because investigators say someone pretended to be Nwatu to get licensed. Federal immigration agents say Nwatu is in this country illegally. Lost Society is a popular off-campus hangout for students. In fact, the SMU Daily Campus lists it as one of the best clubs for the under-21 crowd. TABC started investigating last year after getting complaints from SMU and others about underage drinking at Lost Society.
