Judge Tosses Part Of Romo Fantasy Convention Lawsuit vs NFL
DALLAS (CBSDFW/105.3 The Fan) - A judge has ruled in favor of the National Football League and has thrown out part of Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo's lawsuit against the league over a cancelled Fantasy Football convention.
The NFL has won a partial summary judgment at a Monday hearing. Romo's attorney's plan to appeal.
Romo's attorney says he still has two claims, including breach of contract, to go forward with the lawsuit against the NFL.
The Cowboys QB is suing the NFL for more than $10 million after his attorney say the league forced Romo to cancel a fantasy football event he had planned for in Las Vegas.
The NFL claims the events violates it's gambling policy because the events was to take place at the Sands Convention Center, which is attached to the Venetian casino.
Romo's attorney says she believes the reason the NFL wanted to cancel the event has nothing to do about it's gambling policy, but was more about money.
"The NFL has always been a bully and is being a bully in this situation as well. So the NFL we believe put an end to the event or made the NFFC cancel the event because they weren't getting a piece of the pie" said attorney Julie Pettit. "The NFL is always pro-gambling, always pro fantasy, or anything related to gambling except in this incident when they weren't getting a cut in it."
Romo's attorneys have also been asking for sworn testimony from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Neither Goodell nor Romo were at today's hearing.
