Investigators Blame Lightning For 2 Frisco House Fires

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Fire investigators in the city of Frisco are blaming lightning for two overnight house fires. The blazes were sparked less than seven minutes apart and caused more than $1,000,000 in estimated damage.
Residents at a two-story home in the 15000 block of Nottingham Lane made an emergency call reporting a fire at around 10:30 Tuesday night. The four family members home when the fire broke out were able to escape safely with their pets.
When fire crews got to the scene they found heavy flames coming from the attic. In all, four engines and an aerial ladder truck battled the blaze and got it 'under control' less than 15 minutes after arriving.
About seven minutes after the first emergency call was received lightning sparked another fire at a two-story house in the 1500 block of Talley Lane, about nine miles from the first fire. When first-responders got to that home they also found heavy fire coming from the attic. The residents at this home also escaped safely.
Two fire engines and an aerial ladder battled the blaze. Firefighters didn't reported the fire 'under control' until almost 2:00 a.m.
Both of the homes were approximately 4,500 square feet. There was an estimated $500,000 worth of damage at the Nottingham Lane home. Officials are considering the Talley Lane a 'total loss' with estimated damages of $585,000.
