FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The mood inside the Marshall Grain store off of east Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth was a less than lively on Friday after news that the iconic store is closing.

Bill Orcutt, a loyal customer of the store said, "I was pretty devastated. I've been coming here 25-30 years."

The store,  which has served its customers since 1946 is loosing clientele because of the blighted neighborhood it sits in, according to owner Jim Connelley.

"People from outside the neighborhood did not want to come down because they didn't want to be acosted by pan handlers, and they didnt' want to be in an rea where they didn't feel safe from criminal activity," said Connelley.  He added that the crumbling streets and the blight have "done his store in," and any attempt to save it would be too little to late.

The store is expected to close on June 30, 2016.
