Hurst Residents Try To Repair Damage Before More Bad Weather

HURST (CBSDFW.COM) - City workers in Hurst are checking on the elderly and taking stock of last night's storm damage. And with the potential for bad weather again tonight, residents are trying to repair damage and shore up for more bad weather.
At least one homeowner has his work cut out for him today. Jason Davis and his family will try to get their vehicles out from under a tree that came crashing down.
There are three cars smashed under the uprooted tree. Initially, the family thought the tree was going to crash onto the house. Davis remembered, "I started screaming 'no, no, no, no,' and it landed on the cars."
Davis said he and his family watched as the wind picked up, and his neighbor's tree started twisting. Two of their cars are totaled and they don't know if the third is salvageable.
Despite everything Davis says he feels lucky. He was at home with his wife, children and grandchildren when the tree came down just a few yards away. "I've lived here for 10 years, and I've not seen anything like this. We've always heard about it around… and I thought we were safe because we're up pretty much on a hill right here," he said. "I think the last tornado we had passed south of us by maybe a mile. I never thought anything like this was going to happen."
The Davis family is waiting for an insurance adjuster to access the damage.
A spokesperson for the City of Hurst said they received about a 911 calls Tuesday evening, all reporting trees down in roads. Those roads are all clear now, but they'll be watching the weather closely with a potential for storms again tonight.
Davis said he and his family will be watching too. "I don't think it's going to get any worse for us, but let's not speculate on that one."
