Four Arrested For Social Security Fraud Scheme
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A Social Security Administration worker is among four Arlington residents arrested and federally charged with conspiracy to defraud the Social Security Administration.
A grand jury returned an indictment against lead defendant Carwin Shaw, 33, who worked as a Social Security Administration service representative in the Mid-Cities Field Office in Grand Prairie.
Prosecutors allege that Shaw cut extra checks to the other three defendants claiming their first check had been lost or stolen. Shaw also used the SSA's system to waive the overpayment so the excess checks would not count against any future benefits.
Shaw is accused of splitting the additional checks with the defendants: Amanda Johnson, 35, April Harvey, 36, and Lanusha Lemmons, 25.
All four defendants have pleaded not guilty and have been released on bond. They all face one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of theft of government funds. They are expected to go to trial on July 28.
Prosecutors say other defendants not named in the indictment are expected to plead guilty.
