Fort Worth Kroger Creating Healthy Initiatives, Becomes Blue Zones Approved

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — A Kroger in far north Fort Worth is feeling blue; the grocery store at North Beach Street and Timberland Boulevard has become a Blue Zones Project approved location.
Blue Zones Project Fort Worth is a community-led initiative trying to make it easier for residents to make healthy choices. The city will be implementing environmental changes over the next four years in areas such as grocery stores and schools to coincide with this goal.
The Kroger store plans to make changes such as adding special checkout lanes hosting fruit and alternatives to candy; posting messages encouraging patrons to drink water instead of sugary drinks; and creating Blue Zones parking spaces that encourage customers to walk farther, according to Blue Zones Project Fort Worth.
This Kroger location is the fourth grocery store in Fort Worth and the first in the far north area to become Blue Zones approved.
Blue Zones Project activities reflect lifestyles in the world's Blue Zones areas, which have higher levels of happiness and reduced rates of chronic diseases, the organization said.
