Former Dallas Hospital Imploded, Makes Way For New Plans

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — St. Paul University Hospital started serving the Dallas community back in 1896, when it had a different location and was known as St. Paul's Sanitarium. On Sunday, the next chapter of its service began with an implosion.
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's implosion of the former hospital happened Sunday morning. Once the space is cleared, construction will commence for UT Southwestern's West Campus Master Plan, which will be implemented in phases over the next 15 years. The plan will introduce 1.1 million square feet of new space with the latest technology, a thermal energy plant and more than 5,000 new parking spaces, according to the school.
The first building is scheduled to be finished in April 2018. It will be a 9-story, 302,500-square-foot building with educational, clinical and office space. Simulation labs are also included in the plans.
