Florida Deputy During Shooting: 'Stay At Least 500 Feet Away'

Law enforcement audio from the day of the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida has just been released.
CBS 11 received roughly eighteen minutes of this audio. In it, you primarily hear Broward County's Sherriffs' discussion with its dispatch as they try to identify – as well as locate – the shooter and help victims.
One can also hear former Broward County Sheriff's deputy Scot Peterson tell everyone to stay back.
Peterson resigned after Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said video showed him arriving at the west side of building 12, taking up a position and failing to go inside, even though he knew there was a shooter. He remained outside for about four minutes.
According to the timeline of events released by Broward County Sheriff's office, moments before the shooting stopped, Peterson said, "Make sure I have a unit over in the front of the school, make sure no one comes inside the school." Less than one minute later, and seconds after the suspect left the building, Peterson reinforced his declaration: "Broward, do no approach the 12 or 1300 building, stay at least 500 feet away at this point."
Dispatch confirmed: "stay away from 12 and 1300 building."
Peterson's lawyer previously said that accusations that he acted unprofessionally or cowardly are untrue, claiming that he did not go inside, because it sounded like the shooting was happening outside.
Seventeen people died in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
Florida school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz was formally charged Wednesday with 17 counts of first-degree murder, which could mean a death sentence if he is convicted.
The indictment returned by a grand jury in Fort Lauderdale also charges the 19-year-old with 17 counts of attempted murder for the Valentine's Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in which 17 people died and more than a dozen others were wounded.
