Three family members dead, one injured in Weatherford house fire, officials say

Three family members died and another was injured early Saturday when a fire tore through a Weatherford home, city officials said.

Fire crews from Weatherford and Parker County ESD responded just before 1 a.m. to a home on Stoneridge Trail, a spokesperson for the city said. When they arrived, firefighters reported heavy fire and smoke conditions and began rescue operations. One victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, and three others died at the scene.

Family identified by neighbors

Friends and neighbors told CBS News Texas that the Pidgeon family lived in the home. Killed in the blaze were mother Amy, daughter Malynna, and grandmother Connie.

Firefighters said flames tore through the single‑family home quickly. Neighbors reported smelling smoke from down the block. City officials said the interior and back of the home were severely damaged, with portions destroyed. Much of the roof was also burned through.

Birthday celebration planned that day

Family friend Logan Hansen said the family had planned to celebrate Malynna's 18th birthday on Saturday.

"They were supposed to have a birthday party this afternoon," Hansen said. "We were supposed to do the birthday party and then go and get her a tattoo because she wanted to get a tattoo for her 18th birthday, you know, 18‑year‑olds."

Hansen said the tragedy has been difficult to comprehend.

"Still don't feel real, honestly," he said. "There's no way to process it in my head."

Cause of fire under investigation

Parker County and Tarrant County Task Force fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
