FRISCO (CBS11) - Dressed in holiday red and white, the elf on a shelf, is the eyes and ears for santa at childrens homes around the world.
And if you're like many parents, there comes that moment when you wake up in a panic, and realize. The elf didn't move!!! When that happened recently to a friend of Kate Keck, she got the panicked call, and an idea!
I actually just had a friend who was looking for some help because she forgot to move her elf, and her kids were coming home from school.
Kate texted the kids, as their elf. A business was born.
What I get to to do is bring the "elf on the shelf" to life, for kids and it's really fun, because I'm helping extend the tradition and their belief in Santa!
What started as a favor, has now led to a flood of phone calls.
"I am getting people asking if they're still on the good list," Heck says. "I get that one a lot, today especially!"
For five bucks, you child gets a custom voice message. Ten bucks, a five minute phone call with your elf!
"Right now I have about 20 families, some of them have multiple siblings I'm talking to, so probably between 20 and 40 kids."
