Downs Hits Pinch-Homer To Push Astros Past Rangers
ARLINGTON (AP) – Matt Downs had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth when the Houston Astros scored four times off Texas Rangers closer Neftali Feliz for a 5-3 victory Wednesday night.
The Astros trailed 3-1 when Carlos Lee greeted Feliz (0-1) with a bouncer just over third base for a double and scored on a double by Chris Johnson. Jason Michaels had an infield single before Johnson scored on a passed ball and Downs hit the Astros' first homer in nine games.
Houston (28-48) still has the worst record in the majors.
Mark Melancon (5-1) pitched two innings, giving up a run in the eighth before a perfect ninth.
The meltdown by Feliz wasted an impressive outing by Rangers starter Colby Lewis, who threw seven scoreless innings.
