Did You Feel The Irving Earthquakes?

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - If you thought that you felt the Earth trembling over the weekend, you were right. North Texas was hit by a few earthquakes, and scientists are interested in hearing from those who felt the shaking.
The epicenters of the quakes were located close to the intersection of Loop 12 and Highway 183 in Irving, near the site of the old Texas Stadium. This brings the total to eight earthquakes in the city in just the last two months. A quake on Saturday was 3.3 in magnitude. Sunday saw one with a 2.5 magnitude. And early Monday morning, a third earthquake registered a 2.3 magnitude.
There were no reports of injuries related to the quakes. People all over the DFW area felt the shaking, from Fort Worth to east Dallas, and even as far north as Justin. "All I heard was a big old rattling noise, and I woke up and the TV was moving," recalled Irving resident Eugene Torrance. "I heard dishes fall on the ground. I thought an explosion went off."
Earthquakes are not new to North Texas. But researches are trying to determine why more seem to be happening. They do not have an exact explanation just yet, but some people point to fracking as a possible cause.
There have been many quakes in North Texas, with a majority of them striking the Azle region. A seismologist was even appointed by the state to look into the sharp increase in tremors and determine if fracking played any role. But it could be as early as next year before any definitive answers emerge.
