DFW Terminals Getting $2B Facelift

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CBSDFW.COM) - A massive project to renovate aging terminals at DFW Airport brings a campaign to give travelers a heads up.

Four of the five terminals at DFW Airport will undergo a nearly $2 Billion rebuild.

Airport spokesman David Magana says they're launching a multi-media campaign, complete with a new web page,  to let travelers know what's going on as Terminals A,B,C and E are remodeled.

Plans call for the replacement of terminal systems such as electrical, plumbing, ventilation and other infrastructure like shops, restaurants and waiting areas, in addition to needed upgrades in ticketing and security.

The four original terminals were built in 1974, long before the days of airport security checkpoints.  The terminals had an open design that had to be altered over the years due to security concerns.

The airport says flights will not be negatively impacted, and most of the services offered at the airport will remain open during construction.

The project begins next February after Super Bowl XLV, and will take several years.  The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
