Denton Mother Diagnosed With H1N1 In Coma
Denton (CBS 11 News) -- Kim and Shay Johnson say their family is living a "nightmare."
Their younger sister, Toya Norman, 46, is one of the dozens in North Texas to recently be diagnosed with the deadly H1N1 virus. Norman, a mother of two from Denton is currently in the ICU at Denton Regional Medical center where she lies in a specially ordered bed used to treat H1N1 patients.
She has been in a medically induced coma for about two weeks now, and according to the family, hasn't shown any signs of getting better.
"It takes a hold of you and knocks you down," said Johnson about how the virus has aggressively attacked her sister.
The family says it all started on Christmas Eve. Norman, who didn't have her flu shot, was complaining of what they thought was a mild cough and cold. Two days later she was admitted to the ICU at Denton Regional Medical Center and remains there still.
The Johnson's say they wanted to tell their sister's story so that others in North Texas will take precaution and consider this flu outbreak seriously.
Meantime, her family will continue to "pray and stay strong," in hopes that Norman will get better and eventually come home other children.
