DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After 18 months, the monorail is back up and running at the Dallas Zoo.

The monorail has undergone a $3 million overhaul and even has a new name, the "Wilds of Africa Adventure Safari Monorail."

Laurie Holloway with the zoo said the ride was a workhorse over the years.

"It's 25 years old and it has ridden 4 million people since it's been open and it's tired. It needed some attention and love and care," said Holloway.

She said it received an updated electrical and mechanical system, a new station, and air-conditioning onboard.

"The rare thing about our monorail is that it has an incline and a decline. It's not flat. The highest point is 35 feet, which is above our chimpanzee forest. Then it goes down to 10 or 12 feet," Holloway said.

And she said they fixed electrical problems that had plagued the ride in the past several years.

"If we get another power surge like we did off-sight a year an a half ago, we won't have any passengers we will have to get off the train. We have installed a tug that will push the train back to the station."

The cost is $5 a ride.
