DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The streets and freeways in Dallas have been drivable throughout Saturday afternoon.

On Buckner Blvd near Lake Highlands Drive a large tree fell closing the northbound lanes for a while. Crews cleared that away.

Over at the Dallas Arboretum, Dallas blooms was supposed to start at 9 a.m. but was delayed the opening until noon.

Attendance was light but the arboretum says the flowers will do just fine in this weather.

Photographers like getting those shots of the plants in the snow.

Back at SMU in the lacrosse game between McKinney and Highland Park, a small, but hearty group of parents braved the cold for their kids.

"Just turn on the heater, button up your hat and gloves and put your coat on. it's all part of it. You got to be here for your kids," says Deann Pardee.

"I lived in Colorado so we had this all of the time. We didn't have snow days," says Deann's husband, Bill.

Denton County is still dealing with some icy roads Saturday.

On I35 West, the highway that connects Fort Worth and Denton, the roads are still wet but traffic is running smoothly.

On I35 East, the Denton and Dallas connector, the roads are a bit messier.

During part of Saturday, traffic began building up right in the heart of Denton on 35E.

A plow was brought in to try and scrape some of the ice that had built up on one of the problem bridges.

This caused traffic to be backed up for a while. A few drivers say the icy conditions have some problems.

"Up in Denton there are a lot of these little hills and they're not sanded very often. So, you run into a lot of those patches," says Leah Walker.

Quinn Free agrees. "It's been pretty bad the last couple of days. It's a little better today, but it's really getting bad in the parking lots. They don't have the sand in the salt down and cars can't stop," says Quinn.

Drivers in this area are also dealing with some potholes on the highways, which can cause major tire damage.

As the ice melts, it may be tempting to drive faster, but there are other issues you can run into.
