Dallas Cracks Down On Illegal Dumping Sites

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Illegal dumping sites are disappearing in Dallas as the city cracks down.

Six more chronic illegal dumping sites were shut down last month. Paul Hansen with the city credits the city's "Real Trash Talk" campaign, partnering with Crime Stoppers and the public's help for the elimination of dumping sites.

"We are down to about 37 and last fiscal year at this time we were looking at 62 or 63. So we've made a significant impact," he said.

Last month, the Marshals made 10 new arrests for illegal dumping, raising the number to 207 arrests so far this year, up from 142 last year.

"When we develop these cases, we get a warrant for these people's arrest. In a lot of cases it leads to these chronic sites that have been problems for the city, just going away," Hansen said.

The City urges citizens to call 311 when they see an illegal dumping site and to call 911 if they see dumping in progress. Crime Stoppers also offers up to $1,500 for information leading to an illegal dumping arrest.
